Chinwag, a pass-the-phone party question game, is on the App Store

TLDR Chinwag, previously called Icebreak, is live on the App Store. Pass one phone around the room, read the card out, and let the arguments start. The New Friends deck is free forever, Chinwag Plus unlocks the other 25, and the whole catalogue runs offline with no account.

Chinwag is on the App Store, free to start, for iPhone. It shipped under the name Icebreak and is now Chinwag.

What it does

One phone, no setup. Pick a deck, read the card out loud, and everyone points, votes or argues their case. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to install on anyone else's phone, and no rules to explain before the first laugh.

Five ways to cause chaos. Most Likely To, Never Have I Ever, Hot Takes, Would You Rather, and Tell Us, mixed through 26 decks and 3,069 questions. The free New Friends deck is a complete 140-question deck rather than a sample, and Your Cards, where you write your own prompts, is free too.

A mode for two people. Duo gives a couple or a pair of friends the same question, then compares the answers and lets them talk it out, across five moods and 120 questions.

Mixed-age rooms are handled properly. Family Mode narrows the catalogue to decks reviewed for all ages plus a hand-picked New Friends subset, and never shows a paywall. Decks written for grown-up rooms stay hidden unless the group confirms every player is an adult, so they cannot turn up by accident. The app never asks anyone for a birthday.

It works with no signal. The whole catalogue lives on the phone, so a hostel with bad wifi, a plane or a campsite makes no difference. Prompts, answers and deck choices are never sent anywhere.

Two rules the app sticks to

Anyone can pass. On any card, at any time, without giving a reason. That house rule sits on the screen the whole way through, and the app never tells anyone what they have to do.

No accounts, no ads. There is no login and no advertising. Two things leave the device: purchase status through RevenueCat, and crash reports to my own self-hosted server with the prompt text scrubbed out first. Neither is attached to a name or an email address, because the app has neither.

Chinwag Plus, the optional subscription that unlocks the remaining 25 decks and the other Duo moods, is monthly or yearly. No weekly plan, and no lifetime tier you have to buy to escape a subscription.
